Verstappen has been indomitable at Red Bull, winning the last four drivers’ titles, but he has been linked with a stunning £1billion move to Aston Martin.
On Thursday January 16, the Daily Mail reported that Aston Martin informed its sponsors that the Dutch-Belgian would join them.
And GP Blog submitted it to Verstappen’s team, whose response was simply: “That’s good”, neither confirming nor rejecting the report.
However, Aston Martin “categorically denied” this story when speaking to Planet F1.
If Verstappen were to join Aston Martin, he would follow Adrian Newey – Red Bull’s long-time car designer – in doing so. Newey left Red Bull in 2024 and will join Aston Martin in time for the 2025 season, before the new regulations come into force in 2026.
It’s unclear whether Verstappen would join Aston Martin this season or next, but with the first race of 2025 taking place on March 16 – and pre-season testing, practice and qualifying coming before then – 2026 would seem more likely.
Aston Martin’s current drivers are Fernando Alonso – a two-time F1 champion – and Lance Stroll, son of team owner Lawrence Stroll.
The young Stroll’s performances were disappointing for a long time, but he retained his place at Aston Martin.
Verstappen, 27, partnered Sergio Perez at Red Bull from 2021 until the end of the 2024 season, with Liam Lawson replacing ‘Checo’ ahead of the new campaign.
Verstappen reportedly earns £50m a year at Red Bull, who he joined in 2016 after a stint at their feeder team, Toro Rosso.
